[edit] Characters
[edit] Carly Shay
Carly Shay is a 13-year-old teenage girl with her own web show. She lives with her older brother, Spencer, in
Seattle while her father serves in the
United States military (possibly the
Navy stationed in Iraq, it was once explained that he is living in a
submarine three thousand feet underwater.) She often acts as a mediator between Sam and Freddie during their fights. As a punishment, during the pilot episode Carly and Sam had to listen to talent show auditions for Ms. Briggs, leading her to create "iCarly" to give kids a chance to show off talents that most kids might find disgusting or generally distasteful. She usually stays calm and collected, and rarely (if ever) will have an extreme reaction to an exciting event. It was revealed in "
iWanna Stay With Spencer" that Carly has
asthma, though she has not had an asthma attack since she was 7, and that she has
allergies. She takes
medicine every day, but Spencer only gives her the ones shaped like
dinosaurs. She also drinks
decaf (Spencer switches it while she isn't looking so she thinks it's regular
coffee). Carly is usually very creative and frequently comes up with new ideas. In iWanna Stay With Spencer, Spencer claims Carly has trouble with science, although, in a later episode, she almost gets straight A's, her lowest grade being in History. She hates Nevel Papperman after he hacked her webshow and tried to manipulate her into being his girlfriend.
[edit] Spencer Shay
Spencer Shay is Carly's 26-year-old brother and legal guardian. It is revealed in the episode "
iWanna Stay With Spencer" that he dropped out of law school to become an artist, and is usually seen working on a new sculpture. He is kind, goofy and caring, and his nickname is Spence. He also has an obsession with crazy socks, which are supplied by his friend Socko. He is also single, as he is seen dating or hitting on girls in various episodes. Spencer's friend Socko always hooks up Spencer with bizarre objects (such as a pair of socks with neon lights that according to Spence are the only reason why his first girlfirend in the series liked him). Spencer is played by
Jerry Trainor.
[edit] Samantha"Sam"Puckett
Sam is Carly's friend and somewhat of a rebel. She was described by Carly as "obnoxious and irresponsible" and she often taunts Freddie. Sam always gets detention, often with Miss Briggs. She shows great disinterest in school, quite often falling asleep during class and complaing. In iDream of Dance, it was revealed that if she forgets to eat
breakfast, she will eat in class. Sam is also a girl that is unlike most other girls where she constantly starts fights. Sam is played by
Jenette McCurdy.
[edit] Freddie Benson
Freddie Benson is also a friend of Carly and has a huge crush on her. Freddie also lives an hallway across from Carly in the apartment building. He has an overprotective mother who always embarrasses him. Sam always likes to taunt Freddie and often calls him a geek. Freddie sometimes like to talk back and defend himself. He is the tech producer for iCarly and will sometimes attempt to gain attention. Freddie is played by
Nathan Kress.
[edit] Recurring characters
- Ms. Francine Briggs (Mindy Sterling) is a teacher at Carly's school whom she and her friends like to make jokes about. She also taught at the school when Spencer was a student. She has a crush on Randy Jackson and has lots of pictures of him in her closet and a talking cardboard cut-out of him, plus "Randy YO's" (a parody or special edition box of Cheerios) and Randy Jackson cologne. Francine is fond of exercising, as seen in "iSpy a Mean Teacher", in her spare time. She also loves bagpipe music and plays, once on Carly's webshow.
- Lewbert is the doorman of Carly and Freddie's apartment complex. He has a huge wart on his left cheek. He tends to get irritated when too many people are in his lobby (especially after he's just mopped). He is a victim (without knowing) in the segment "Messin with Lewbert" on iCarly.
- Ms. Benson (Mary Scheer) is Freddie's overprotective mother. She often embarrasses Freddie in front of his friends, and is overbearing and nosy. It was revealed in "iRue the Day" that Ms. Benson doesn't give Freddie much allowance (she only gives him $8 a month) because she's afraid that he will buy a bus ticket and leave her. Ms. Benson hates Spencer and always spies on him because she is afraid that he will put her son in danger. The first time she is shown on ICarly she says Freddie has no leg hair and she was putting of anti tick cream.
- Jeremy (Nathan Pearson) is a sickly kid at Carly's school. He's constantly sneezing and coughing. Sam, Freddie and Carly refer to him as "Germy" as he is the germiest kid in school. It was revealed in "iNevel" that he has had a cold since the first grade.
- Socko is Spencer's friend, who gets him glowing socks and generally does odd-jobs for him. He is an unseen character, but is mentioned on several occasions.
- Grandfather Shay (Greg Mullavey) is Carly and Spencer's grandfather from Yakima. He originally feels Spencer is incompetent as a guardian, but changed his mind in "iWanna Stay With Spencer." He exercises daily, a habit he cites as the reason behind his ability to walk on his hands.
- Gibby (Noah Munck) is a kid at Carly's school, whom Sam constantly insults and blames for her actions. He likes spelling bees and Ryan Seacrest.
- Nevel Papperman (Reed Alexander) is an 11 year old web-critic, whose website nevelocity.com receives several million hits per day. He has a crush on Carly, and continually attempts acts of revenge on her for not allowing him to kiss her.
